Houston Liposuction

If you are not sure what liposuction is, it is a surgical procedure that many Houston liposuction qualified surgeons use to provide refinement to your figure. What liposuction is NOT is a weight loss technique used as a quick way to become thinner.

Liposuction procedures do not actually remove large quantities of fat and so the weight of the patient is not reduced significantly during the procedure. People who have already lost most of the weight, but have specific trouble spots that still contain fat, find that liposuction lets the surgeon target these parts of the body specifically and reduce or remove fat from these problem areas.

Some common examples of the areas liposuction is used for are the tummy, love handles, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck. In these cases, the patient has lost the weight but, no matter what they do, these areas stubbornly remain. Houston liposuction surgeons use instruments that allow them to litterally recontour the patient's body by selecting which areas to remove excess fat from.

By using a suction device, the surgeon is able to literally vacuum out the fat from the problem areas. Often liposuction is also used on men to reduce the size of male breasts by removing fat from the pectoralis area. The people who benefit the most from the procedure, according to several Houston liposuction surgeons, are those that have concentrated areas of fat and firm, elastic skin.

This is because the skin needs to contract around the newly reduced area and conform to the new contours to really look good. Skin is less elastic on older patients, so this may mean that they are not good candidates for liposuction.

It can vary with the size of the treated area, but most patients are able to return to their normal activities in 1 or 2 weeks. But to fully recover from the procedure, it will usually take a patient 2 or 3 months. For the first few weeks after surgery, many surgeons recommend wearing a compression garment.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

Recently, a new variation on liposuction has appeared that is called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, or "UAL" for short. UAL procedures employ the use of a probe that can give off ultrasonic, high frequency sound. The sound emitted by the UAL device liquifies the fat and it is then removed through suction as normal.

UAL probes do not produce nearly as much bleeding or tissue damage, so the surgeon can actually remove much more fat during the procedure. There is also less bruising than with traditional liposuction. The results of UAL are usually smoother, decreasing the chance of contour irregularity, which can sometimes occurs after traditional liposuction.

The sound emitting UAL probe cannot be used on all areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to find if it can be used in your procedure. Since the UAL equipment is much more expensive, you should expect that these procedures will cost more than traditional liposuction. Lastly, be aware that the first two generations of UAL machines could possibly damage skin with overly powerful sound waves. Third and later generation equipment apparently have resolved this problem.

After you have determined which of the Houston liposuction surgeons (or one in your area) will do your surgery, they might recommdn a combination of techniques in your case.
